Read MoreThanks to “La Pietra d’Angolo” an association that operates in the area I was able to visit Dilvo Lotti’s house in the occasion of the Palio di San Rocco week. The house can only be visited on some occasions so I am very happy to have seen it. Dilvo Lotti is an internationally renowned painter who lived in this house in San Miniato for almost his entire life together with his wife Giuseppina. His production is present everywhere so as to seem like a still inhabited house. Paintings, theatrical posters, frescoes cover the walls and tell us about this artist very close to San Miniato. His creations are everywhere, both inside (even in the bathroom!) and outside with decorations also in terracotta and bas-reliefs. In the study stands a figure of Raffaella Carrà, a three-dimensional proposal from 1985 for the Children’s Carnival of San Miniato, a way for the artist to deal with sculpture and work for the town. His production is lively, intriguing and in the end you can visit the colorful and animated rooms in religious silence … towards his art, but also for the perception of a man who lived to create incessantly and for the love of his wife, tangible Josephine in the many representations of her and in the works carried out together such as the banner that reminds Depero “Tu ed io ’51” that Dilvo designed and Giuseppina sewed.
Dilvo Lotti said: “I have two reasons that I consider important to live here: religious subjects and the city and landscape of San Miniato. In the first I think I have expressed the drama of humanity with characteristics derived from the environment in which I live, that is, from the medieval spirit that I feel and breathe; in the second I think to express that joy that, despite everything, is in me and that I see reflected in the colors of our land ”
To be visited to better undertand this artist whose works can be also found in numerous places in San Miniato including the Church of Santo Stefano.
